Companion Planting
Building a self-sustaining landscape. Well-designed landscapes are like the forest or the dunes. Each plant has a place, a time to perform, and a function. Come learn how to apply these principles to your garden and see how to improve the functionality of your landscape. Reducing our labor and working smarter, our goal is to leave you with ideas to simplify maintenance and get the most from each growing season.

Backyard Birds

Discover more about the birds in your own backyard with educational and hands-on activities for inquisitive minds. Participants will learn how to draw birds and create a bird snack to take to their fine feather friends at home. Organic & Biological Controls of Pests & Disease Workshop
Join us to learn about the various ways to avoid harsh chemicals in our landscapes. If you want to promote a healthy landscape it’s essential to find a way to reduce the input of noxious chemicals which kill good & bad insects alike. Come learn how to identify problem pests and diseases while employing targeted solutions capable of ridding your landscape of common problems. This is a good first step towards introducing beneficial bugs, good bacteria, useful fungi, while limiting harsh sprays and indiscriminately killing helpful organisms.

Fall Container Gardening

As the cool weather starts to appear it is time to change out those summer annual container gardens to fall colors. Join us for a discussion on fall annuals and the creation of fall container gardens hosted by The Elizabethan Garden’s Garden Manager.

Plant a Tree, or Two Workshop

September is a great time to plant trees and woody shrubs. This allows them time to become well established by the time the cold winter winds return. We will be offering a workshop in the proper techniques of soil preparation, and planting of shrubs and trees. Seed Savings Workshop
10:00- 11:30 am
How and why to save and grow seeds, from oaks to tomatoes. Saving seeds is as old as time and we need to keep viable seed stock more than ever. Learn the best way to choose, clean, and store worthwhile annuals and how to save and propagate seeds from your favorite trees, shrubs, and perennials!

Fall Transition Workshop

October is our fall shoulder month, the perfect time to phase out any remaining summer annuals, and prepare the beds for cooler weather annuals. Join us at the Elizabethan Gardens for a celebration of fall workshop. There will be a discussion of how to phase out spent annuals, soil amendments, and fall annual planting schemes. Christmas Cactus Workshop

Winter Transition Workshop

November is the best time to clean out and mulch the seasonal beds for the winter. It’s also a great time to add cold weather annuals that will be very welcome during the grey, cold, and windy days of January. Join us at the Elizabethan Gardens for a hands-on

Designing the Four-Season Garden Workshop
FREE for members. $15 for non-members.
Limited to 12.
For beauty, birds, and butterflies. Now that our gardens are giving way to fall we can see the need to redesign and reconfigure our landscapes. Come and learn how to dissect the needs of your garden. Whether it needs evergreen color, a late season bloom, or a statue to solidify an unused portion of your landscape, we can help. Bring in a rough drawing, a picture of your garden, or a site plan and we can work towards a cohesive landscape design that brings attention and beauty to your home.

Now that the cold air is here, and Christmas is on our minds It’s time to change out those fall plants to the pastel hues of winter annuals. Join us for a discussion of winter annuals and tips on how to create a winter container garden.

Dormancy Workshop

Putting your garden to bed and the best practices of getting ready for winter. We will advise and learn about the ultimate process of preparing for winter. What to cut back, what to leave up, and how to get ahead of the spring rush to wake up our gardens. The more proactive we are about fall preparations & planting the better and easier spring will become.

Poinsettia Workshop
2:00- 4:00 pm

Plant a holiday container and learn about our North American native (Euphorbia pulcherrima) Poinsettia. We will discuss its place in the holiday and the likes and dislikes of the species. Euphorbia is one of the largest genera of plants worldwide and is a stunner in the homes at this time of year. Join us to add a bright and cheery container to your holidays.
