Virginia Dare’s Saga

Virginia Dare’s statue, a 100-year journey marked with drowning, rescue, fire, abandonment and ridicule to find her home in The Elizabethan Gardens. Maria Louisa Lander’s rare creation, a likeness to the first English child born in the new world, is now at peace, safe under live oaks and encircled by azaleas and other blooms.

The Elizabethan Gardens is located adjacent to The Lost Colony's Waterside Theatre and Fort Raleigh National Historic Park on Roanoke Island nestled near North Carolina's Outer Banks. The gardens are open year-round, seven days a week except certain holidays.
