FREE with paid admission. Event is outside (activity is subject to weather-related cancellations). Join us on the Great Lawn as we release butterflies into the wild. Visit also our indoor Butterfly Center which opens to the public at 10:45 on Wednesdays. An experience for the whole family.

An exclusive opportunity – requires 7-day advance ticket reservations. Join us for an up-close chance to experience these beautiful creatures as they take their first flight inside our John White Butterfly Center. Limited to 40 guests. Tickets must be purchased online only for this limited event. Our staff will share with you more about butterflies and our center in the program. Program includes a keepsake certificate and a handheld butterfly feeder¬¬¬. This is a wonderful experience for the whole family.

Butterfly Keeper Day

Members $15 adult, $10 children under 15 yrs/ Not-Yet Members $20 adult, $15 children under 15 yrs
* Limited to 14 participants. Must be 8 years or older. RSVP five days before event. Do you want to be a butterfly keeper for a day? Learn how to care for butterflies and see what they need to be healthy and happy alongside our butterfly keepers. Learn how to identify butterflies and help unpack, release and feed newly-emerged butterflies. Participants receive a “Butterfly Keeper for a Day” certificate. Includes admission and a snack.

Whether a small pot or a lush meadow, an important garden in any size. Learn about what butterflies need and what plants they nest on, feed from and add them to your garden.

Butterfly Tea Party

Members $40 adults, $20 youth under 15 yrs/ Not-Yet Members $45 adults, $30 youth under 15 yrs
Limited to 100 participants. Advanced registration required. youth under 15 years. Savor each sip, melt on each morsel and bask in the Gardens as you enjoy meeting an upcoming author in this fun-inspired tea with butterfly crafts and games. Odom Hall will be adorned with plants from the greenhouse setting the stage for tea to be served in the style and elegance expected of a decadent tea party.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Come spring over to the annual Easter Eggstravaganza. This event has become an Outer Banks spring tradition held in the midst of the beautiful spring blooms featuring an egg scavenger hunt, photo opportunities, a homemade bake sale, egg roll on the Great Lawn, story time, educational crafts, games, an Easter bonnet and hat contest, and more kid-geared fun. Arbor Day “Meet the Trees” in the Gardens

Arbor Day, which is Latin for “Tree Day,” is an environmental holiday where citizens and groups are encouraged to plant trees and care for the already existing trees. Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton on April 10th, 1872 in Nebraska City, Nebraska, United States where over an estimated one million trees were planted on that single day. Come join us in the Gardens with coffee and donuts and discussion of our tree collection. You can help our Garden Staff in planting trees in the Gardens. Learn how to plant trees and what will make a healthy tree grow. Free for members and with Admission.

POP UP Art Show

Free with standard admission. Art prices as low as $50. Enjoy a glass of wine (cash bar, $5), morsels of cheese, and sweets while you stroll the gardens and see what the art community of North Carolina has to offer. See watercolor, acrylic, oils and mixed media paintings. Both established and new emerging artists will be presented together, giving the public a chance to see some favorites and to discover new works too. This is one show you will not want to miss!! Proceeds benefit The Elizabethan Gardens.

Let the dogs out for our third annual tail-wagging’ happy affair. Features local fur-loving exhibitors and activities for your entire family with contests (and first place prizes) for your dog. WOOFstock also features live music, a dog photographer and concessions available for both dogs and humans. Standard admission for members, non-members and canine visitors applies. FREE for canines, standard admission for humans.

Carl Curnutte will lead a class on how to create a spring bouquet arrangement. Participants will be treated to delicious wine and fine cheeses.
